Apprenticeships are a great way for young people to enter the industry. An apprenticeship will give you a solid grounding in how things are made and maintained. From there, who knows where your career might take you?
It's impossible to tell you exactly what you'll be doing while you are partaking in your apprenticeship because no two Appren-ticeships are exactly alike.
To be employed as an Apprentice you will be required to sign a Registered Training Contract for a nominal period of 4 years.
As part of your training contract you will be required to undertake a structured training program as part of your normal work obligations as an Apprentice. This usually means undertaking 6-8 weeks block of TAFE each year.
The Manufacturing and Engineering Industry employs a work force approaching one million people, making it the second largest employer in Australia.
More of its employees work full time then in any other industry.
Job vacancy surveys show that almost 40,000 engineering jobs are advertised annually. Research into employment patterns within the manufacturing industry shows that most jobs are filled without being advertised. There may have been as many as 90,000 jobs on offer last year alone! |
