Amber Zinke, National MIGAS Apprentice of the Year. THE only female MIGAS apprentice mechanical engineer in Australia has beaten all comers to win the national apprentice title proving yet again woman can handle the tough jobs found in engineering and mining. SOURCE: Singleton Argus

David Brown, MIGAS CEO – Friday night marked the QLD, WA and National Awards night for MIGAS. It was also our 25th anniversary. Woohoo, what a night.

At the recent NSW/Victorian MIGAS Awards celebration, Luke Gavin was named NSW/Victorian Electronics Trainee of the Year 2012 and the top award of NSW/Victorian Overall Trainee of the Year 2012.

Nick Couper, NSW/VIC State Manager – Last week I wrote a blog on how rewarding working for a Group Training Orgainisation can be… well a few weeks ago MIGAS held the annual New South Wales/Victoria Awards night. Well what I can say is WOW!!! For everyone involved, from the organisational staff involved to the industry training partners and most of all the apprentices and trainees, we could all say that this was evidence and proof of how rewarding it is.

On Friday evening on the 12th April a very successful MIGAS NSW/Victorian Awards night was held. The night was held in recognition of the hard work of the apprentices and trainees and their host companies throughout the year of 2012… The award winners were:

We are now approaching crunch time with the Awards Nights, and my head is whirling with everything I need to organise by the 17th May! With both Awards Nights quickly approaching, awards nominations have closed and we are pleased to say that the race for the winning spots is well underway. Interviews for the QLD/WA awards began a couple of weeks ago, and the calibre of the nominees is truly outstanding.

As you are hopefully all aware, MIGAS is very excited to celebrate its 25th year in the industry at the Awards Nights this year. After a shaky start, MIGAS found its feet when David Brown joined the company as General Manager (now CEO) in 1999.

Excitement is building as we creep ever closer to the annual MIGAS award celebrations, and more and more details have been decided upon. Let me give you an update; a bit of a “sneak peak” at what you can expect from the MIGAS awards nights in 2013.

Holmwood Highgate in Loganholme is particularly proud of their school-based trainee, Jacob! Jacob recently completed his 2 year school-based boilermaking traineeship at the end of October (just in time to celebrate at Schoolies!) and is due to start his full time apprenticeship with Holmwood Highgate in December. Holmwood have nominated Jacob for School-based of the Year – an excellent outcome for Jacob, his supervisor at Holmwood, Matt, and his HRDO, Dorelle.

Nominations are coming in and it’s great to see some of the wonderful efforts of our apprentices and trainees are being recognised and appreciated by their hosts again this year. Recognition for an apprentice can really help boost their career in the industry. There are many success stories among our previous winners of MIGAS awards.
