Brisbane, Australia – 1st September 2010

Brisbane carpentry apprentice, Richard Hauser, represented at the Today’s Skills: Tomorrow’s Leaders (TSTL) program 2010 in Canberra, ACT.

TSTL is a week-long leadership program where 21 group training apprentices are selected from around the nation to participate as emerging leaders in their chosen industries. They have the opportunity to meet like-minded apprentices and trainees from each State.

Hauser is employed with MIGAS Apprentices & Trainees, a group training organisation servicing the Eastern seaboard of Australia, and is currently in his 4th year of a Certificate III in Carpentry apprenticeship.

Hauser was selected out of approximately 35,000 Group Training nominees to participate as one of the 21. “It felt amazing to be honoured with such a position, knowing that there is only a selected amount of apprentices in Australia each year that have the opportunity to do this,” Hauser exclaims.

“The program involved finding out about your personality in contrast to others and how to communicate better with one another in the workplace environment. We planned out our goals in life for the next five to ten years, identified obstacles that could get in our way of achieving them, and found ways to overcome them.

“I found this course to have given me a clearer view of the future I am heading towards,” Hauser said.

Key highlights of the program included a Government House luncheon with the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC, a visit to Parliament House, and filming for a commercial to promote apprenticeships and traineeship to school students
