MIGAS Scholarships

Awarded to a final year apprentice in any trade for exceptional performance on-the-job and in formal training. The winning recipient will demonstrate exceptional employer feedback, extracurricular activities or community work, training results and conduct throughout total apprenticeship employment period.

Eligibility: Open to current MIGAS employed final year apprentices in any trade.

Scholarship Value: $2,000 cash payment and funding towards an experience (travel/conference) to the value of $1,000.

Award Offers: One scholarship awarded nationally each year.

Awarded to a third year apprentice for exceptional performance on-the-job and in formal training.

The winning recipient will demonstrate exceptional host employer feedback, extracurricular activities or community work, training results and conduct throughout apprenticeship employment period and capability at mid-point in training.

Eligibility: Open to current MIGAS employed third year apprentices in any trade.

Scholarship Value: $1,000 cash payment and professional development to the value of $1,000.

Award Offers: One award nationally each year.

Awarded to a second year apprentice who shows great promise early in their training and development journey.

Winning recipients will demonstrate exceptional host employer feedback, extracurricular activities or community work, training results and conduct throughout apprenticeship employment period. Overcoming challenges such as financial and personal hardships or distance to secure apprenticeship will also be considered.

Eligibility: Open to current MIGAS employed second year apprentices. 

Scholarship Value: $1,000 cash payment and professional development to the value of $1,000.

Awarded to a trainee who shows great promise early in their training and development journey.

Winning recipients will demonstrate exceptional host employer feedback, extracurricular activities or community work, training results and conduct throughout apprenticeship employment period. Overcoming challenges such as financial and personal hardships or distance to secure apprenticeship will also be considered.

Eligibility: Open to current MIGAS trainees. Must be employed for a minimum six months.

Scholarship Value: $1,000 cash payment and professional development to the value of $1,000.

Award Offers: One scholarship awarded nationally each year.

Awarded to an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander apprentice who has demonstrated exceptional performance on-the-job and in formal training.

Winning recipients will demonstrate exceptional host employer feedback, extracurricular activities or community work, training results and conduct throughout apprenticeship employment period. Overcoming barriers to undertaking the apprenticeship such as personal and financial hardships will also be considered.

Eligibility: Open to a current MIGAS employed apprentice in any trade who identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Must be employed in current apprenticeship for minimum six months.

Scholarship Value: $1,000 cash payment and professional development to the value of $1,000.

Award Offers: One scholarship awarded nationally each year.

Awarded to a female apprentice who has demonstrated exceptional performance on-the-job and in formal training.

The scholarship winner will demonstrate exceptional host employer feedback, extracurricular activities or community work, training results and conduct throughout apprenticeship employment period. Demonstrated ability to overcome obstacles and challenges to gaining employment will also be considered.

Eligibility: Open to a current MIGAS employed female apprentice in any trade. Must be employed in a current apprenticeship for minimum six months.

Scholarship Value: $1,000 cash payment plus professional development to the value of $1,000.

Award Offers: One scholarship awarded nationally each year.

Seven scholarships will be awarded throughout Australia from four categories. These are:

• Two scholarships are offered for Excellence in Trades (Final Year and Third Year) 
• Three scholarships are offered for Rising Star (First Year Apprentice, Second Year Apprentice, and Trainee)
• One scholarship is offered for Indigenous Apprentice
• One scholarship is offered for Woman in Trades

Each scholarship winner receives a combination of a cash prize to use in any way they’d like plus additionally financial support for professional development to further themselves within their chosen career. 

The scholarship categories are open to any MIGAS employed apprentice or trainee who is either currently undertaking their placement with a host employer, or completed their apprenticeship/traineeship in the 2018 calendar year.

Only host employers of MIGAS can nominate. If you are a MIGAS apprentice or trainee and are interested in the financial assistance through the scholarship program, we strongly encourage you have a chat to your supervisor or MIGAS Field Officer and let them know you’re interested in the program. They can then progress your application through the appropriate channels. 

You can only apply directly through our website, we’ve streamlined the online submission process to make it simple and easy, to save you time. 

Scholarships will be awarded by a panel of senior MIGAS staff and external stakeholders with consideration to a range of factors including but not necessarily limited to:

• host employer feedback
• extracurricular activities or community work
• financial need
• training results
• conduct throughout apprenticeship employment period

Overcoming challenges such as financial and personal hardships and/or distance to secure an apprenticeship will also be considered in all categories.

Scholarships will be awarded on the merit of each application.

Unfortunately, no late nominations will not be accepted. Nominations must be received by midnight (QLD Time), Wednesday 31st October, 2018 via the online application form. We’ll remind employers that the deadline is approaching so you have enough time to get your nominations submitted in time.

As a host employer, you can nominate as many apprentices or trainees as you like but you only need to nominate each applicant once.

Nominations closed midnight (QLD time) on Wednesday 31 October 2018. Nominations for limited categories were extended until midnight (QLD time) Saturday 18 November.
