THE INAGURAL 2017 MI-SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

A MIGAS Scholarship is designed specifically for apprentices, to acknowledge those that are going above and beyond, and also recognise those who’ve overcome obstacles to gaining employment in trades by demonstrating resilience and grit through their everyday work.

The scholarship program is open nationally to all MIGAS apprentices and trainees and aims to recognise the achievements of those who exhibit extraordinary promise through an annual scholarship fund. • Can I nominate myself?

Only host employers of MIGAS can nominate. If you are a MIGAS apprentice or trainee and are interested in the financial assistance through the scholarship program, we strongly suggest you have a chat to your supervisor or MIGAS Field Officer and let them know you’re interested in the program. They can then help you progress your application through the appropriate channels. We’ll remind employers that the deadline is approaching so you have enough time to get your nominations submitted before applications are cut off.

  • I'm a host employer, how many apprentices, can I nominate?

You can nominate as many apprentices or trainees as you like but you only need to nominate each applicant once.

  • Why change the old MIGAS Awards Program?

For 20 years MIGAS has recognised and rewarded its high achieving apprentices with a national awards program. We realise times change and what we did 20 years ago may not resonate with today’s apprentices and trainees. As a result, our annual MIGAS Excellence in Trade Awards program has been reinvented into the new Mi-Scholarship Program.

We did this because we listened to feedback about the Awards from both our host employers and apprentices. Throughout past Awards, apprentices shared that they appreciated the recognition, and felt special that MIGAS was prepared to invest in hosting a special awards ceremony for them. Employers who attended events to support nominees provided feedback that they were proud of the achievements of their apprentice, and used attendance at the events as a team bonding opportunity.

Conversely, many shared with us that participation in the Awards strained their time and resources. They found some aspects inequitable such as the limitations and costs associated with travelling to ceremonies. And, while a trophy or frame might look great on the bookshelf, the feedback was loud and clear that a tangible reward would be a terrific incentive for apprentices and trainees who are just starting out.

  • When do nominations close?

Nominations close at midnight (QLD Time), Sunday 15th October, 2017.
