HeadStart is all about developing work and life skills for Year 12 students preparing to finish school and enter the workforce in a trade related field.
The MIGAS HeadStart Program is facilitated by our experienced youth mentor and apprentice careers expert. Students attend face-to-face workshops combined with a supported work experience placement to build technical skills, practical knowledge and job readiness. Workshops include a mix of professional presentations, discussions, hands-on activities, role playing, guest presenters and are supported by practical workbooks.
In 2016, 92% of students successfully secured employment into their selected apprenticeship career pathways. This cohort commenced apprenticeships in engineering, electrical, construction and heavy vehicle skilled trades industries. The 2017 students are on track for similar results.
In 2018, the program has received unprecedented interest and consequently we are opening up the programs availability to Year 12 students in the Brisbane Region who are eager to land a trade apprenticeship after school.
Applications for the 2018 program have now closed.
