A pre-apprenticeship and employability skills development program designed for Year 12 students who want to secure a career in trades after school.

"The last apprentice we put on was a MIGAS HeadStart Program graduate. I was so impressed by how prepared he was, we could instantly see he was equipped to cope with the transition from school to work. Since starting he has surpassed our expectations, he brings the right attitude and motivation to work everyday which hasn’t diminished since he arrived. I have no hesitation in endorsing the MIGAS HeadStart Program and I will be utilising this program to recruit for our future apprentices."

"In 2017, St Augustine’s College had two Year 12 students participate in the MIGAS HeadStart Program. Both felt they benefitted from the Program because it enabled them to trial their chosen trade career while still at school. The training was offered during school holidays, so there was minimal interruption to their school-based program of studies. The students reported that they enjoyed the holiday training programs because they were doing activities they enjoyed and getting a head start on their future careers. Adding workshops based on employability skills ensured the students are prepared to make a successful transition into the workplace. I have been impressed by the support provided by MIGAS who made sure the students understood what was involved and provided them with regular feedback and guidance about their performance. I’m looking forward to having more students develop their potential through the MIGAS HeadStart Program."

"Over the past two years, I have referred students to MIGAS to participate in the Program. These students were seeking apprenticeships in the engineering industry. I have been very impressed with the organisation of the Program. Students have gained so many skills in the engineering field and have gained valuable employability skills. My students have matured since they have been involved with the Program. They’ve had the opportunity to be placed with potential employers through the work experience component, and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. All of my students who have participated in the Program over the past two years have been offered full time apprenticeships post Year 12."

"I was beginning my final year of school and got the opportunity to participate in HeadStart. Its helped me develop skills which I’ve been able to use in everyday life. I’m more confident in myself, communicating and working in teams. Through the Program I secured work experience in my trade of choice. Petelo not only helped me secure a job but also mentored and supported me throughout Year 12. It was like having my own apprenticeship coach who invested in me to succeed. I would definitely recommend the HeadStart program to any Year 12 student who is serious about securing a career in the skilled trades."
