    Apprentices in priority occupations will be paid directly for commencing their apprenticeship. This incentive is set at $1,250, paid every six months for the first two years of an apprenticeship, up to a maximum of $5,000 for full-time apprentices.

  • How does Group Training work?

    As an accredited Group Training Organisation (GTO), MIGAS contractually employs apprentices and trainees, and facilitates all aspects of their training with their host employer and the Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

    Group training is especially suited to businesses that do not have the time or resources to undertake all the functions involved in an apprenticeship or traineeship, or who require flexibility around the placement and rotation of their workforce. Apprentices and trainees can be rotated between host employers, offering training in a range of skills.

    The GTO organises off-the-job training with TAFE or a preferred RTO. We also look after wages, workers compensation and other employee benefits, as well as providing mentoring and support.

    MIGAS is a one-stop-shop for advice and assistance for young Australians seeking the right apprenticeship or traineeship specialisation. It’s our role to understand what type of training and employment each person is seeking, and match them with the right host employer.

  • What's are the main benefits of using a GTO?

    Taking on an apprentice or trainee with MIGAS means less risk to your business.

    MIGAS is the legal employer or the apprentice or trainee and coordinates payroll, administration and HR support. We also provide ongoing mentoring for the duration of the apprenticeship or traineeship to ensure your hosted employee is happy, helpful and performing well.

  • Do apprentice and trainees have to attend offsite training?

    Yes, but the good news is it’s planned well in advance and for some traineeships may be flexibly delivered.

    MIGAS takes the load by scheduling and booking the training component of the apprenticeship or traineeship, meaning you’ll be able to plan ahead with confidence.

  • How do you ensure a safe workplace for apprentices and trainees?

    Safety is at the heart of our business and shapes the decisions we make. MIGAS is nationally accredited to safety standard ISO 45001:2018. It is our job to ensure our apprentice and trainee workforce:

    • Works with safe and considered systems under qualified supervision
    • Only uses plant, equipment and substances which are provided in a continually safe and operable condition
    • Has access to up to date and relevant safety information
    • Participates in a thorough induction and orientation

    MIGAS conducts thorough risk assessments on all worksites prior to placing apprentices and trainees on-site. We work closely with our host employers to explore practical solutions, and implement safety measures to ensure our employees are entering a safe work environment.

  • What is the difference between an apprentice and traineeship?

    Apprenticeships are traditionally centered around a technical trade that may require more training and more time on the job. Think electrical, plumbing, metal fabrication or mechanical. Apprenticeships range from 3-5 years in length.


    Traineeships are typically shorter and range from 12-24 months. Traineeships are often associated with transactional and administrative job roles. In truth, there are dozens of different types of traineeships ranging from telecommunications, warehousing and engineering through to customer service and general business support.
