The apprenticeship

Based in Mt. Thorley, this full-time opportunity will allow you to complete your Cert. III Engineering-Fabrication Trade with Bradken - a leading global manufacturer of cast and fabricated products for heavy industry. In addition, you will receive invaluable mentoring and support from MIGAS – Australia’s leading Apprentice and Trainee organisation.

Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, you will work alongside skilled tradesmen to learn all aspects of the boilermaker trade. You will use welding, thermal cutting equipment and fabrication techniques to assemble, repair and build different products made of metal or steel. You will work on products for the mining, freight rail, steel making, smelting, transport and other primary industries.

We’re looking for motivated and driven applicants who are passionate about building a career within the fabrication trade. You will be ready to give 110% commitment to completing your trade to the highest standard, be enthusiastic to learn and able to follow instructions as well as take initiative. You will also be able to demonstrate maturity and a ‘safety first’ attitude within an industrial workshop environment.

Essential requirements

  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Access to your own reliable transport to and from work in Mt. Thorley on a fulltime basis.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Comfortable with physical work in a sometimes demanding environment.
  • Demonstrate a genuine passion for the mechanical trade and take pride in the quality of your work.
  • Commitment to attending TAFE and passing all theory-based and practical training modules.

Applicants who have completed relevant school-based study, pre-apprenticeship training or work experience within the metals and engineering field will be very highly regarded.
