The Opportunity

MIGAS are working together with Shell’s QGC business and local contractors to create opportunities in the Western Downs region for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander job seekers who are looking to establish a career pathway in the local area. We have partnered with local employers who are looking to increase the representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within their workforce. As part of the traineeship there will be a mix of hands-on practical experience, as well as on the job training for the theory component of the coursework. This will give program participants the opportunity to gain real work experience, while getting on the job exposure to what it’s like working with a world leading organisation in the energy sector.  Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse group of people as you discover your potential and gain an insight into how the company operates.

 

The Role

This is a 12-month traineeship working towards gaining your Certificate II in Engineering Production Systems – (MEM20205) working directly with Shell’s QGC business and local contractors in the Western Downs who will provide coaching to develop skills in safety, teamwork, repairs and maintenance of mechanical components, and exposure to the working environment and culture of Shell’s QGC business. You’ll be working Monday to Friday being trained by trade qualified professionals who will show you what to expect on a day to day basis working in Shell’s QGC business and supply chain. As part of your duties you will learn a variety of skills and work based competencies that are designed to increase your mechanical aptitude and help to prepare you for further traineeships, apprenticeships, or employment within the company.  

These responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Working with Mechanical machines such as well site and gas site equipment
  • Monitoring, servicing, repairing and assembly of mechanical, fabrication, electrical and metal product machines
  • Following safe work procedures

In addition to these qualities, you will possess the following requirements:

  • Live locally or ability to move and live in the western downs area
  • Have an interest in mechanics and seeing how things work
  • Be reliable for full-time working hours Monday to Friday
  • Have an open approach to learning
