National Apprenticeship Week Puts Australia’s Skills Pipeline in the Spotlight

NAWA Puts Australias Skills Pipeline in the Spotlight

National Apprenticeship Week™

From mine sites to factory floors, the people training today will power Australia tomorrow.

That’s the message at the heart of National Apprenticeship Week Australia, running from 9–15 February 2026, as businesses, training providers and communities unite to celebrate the apprentices shaping the country’s future.

Launched in Australia in 2022 by MIGAS Apprentices & Trainees, the observance week has grown into a truly national movement.

MIGAS Chief Executive, David Hoey, said the incredible support for National Apprenticeship Week is evidence of the demand for skilled pathways into work.

“National Apprenticeship Week sits at the intersection of industry, education and employment with the audacious goal to generate investment in skilled trades careers by championing apprentices and those who employ them,” Mr Hoey said.

“It shines a spotlight on the people and businesses investing in hands-on skills. It celebrates apprentices as our future, not simply workers in training. Australian industry is quite literally in their hands.”

At the centre of the week is the popular “Give a Shout” campaign, encouraging employers, training organisations, and industry stakeholders to publicly recognise apprentices for their commitment, determination and contribution.

Some of Australia’s best-known brands have signed on in support of apprentices with events and activations taking place nationally.

“It’s fantastic to see government bodies, large employers, training organisations and communities rally behind apprenticeships…there are few things as iconically Australian than a tradie-in-training,” Mr Hoey said.

According to the latest NCVER reporting, there were 307,000 apprentices and trainees in training nationally as at June 2025 – 11.3% lower than the same period in 2024.

“We can’t solve the skills shortage without bold leadership. This observance week was, in part, created to spotlight the organisations stepping up for apprentices to set a higher benchmark for how industry can recognise, support and champion Australian Apprenticeships.”

About National Apprenticeship Week Australia

National Apprenticeship Week Australia™ is a national initiative by MIGAS Apprentices & Trainees that celebrates apprenticeships and traineeships as cornerstones of individual skill development and national economic strength.

Observed annually in the second week of February, National Apprenticeship Week unites stakeholders across the apprenticeship ecosystem to acknowledge achievements, elevate career pathways, and recognise the employers and organisations who invest in developing Australia’s future workforce.

The theme in 2026 is “It’s in the making”, which highlights the potential of every individual to thrive as an apprentice through the transformative power of quality training and support. It recognises that successful careers are built through dedication, mentorship, and the sustained commitment of government, employers, and training providers working together.
