Top 3 Reasons to Undertake an Apprenticeship

Top 3 Reasons to Undertake an Apprenticeship

University isn’t for everyone, nor is going straight into the job market when you leave school.

Apprenticeships and traineeships offer an alternate path that gets you trade qualified while earning on the job, and can open up a world of opportunity.

Here are our top three reasons to undertake an apprenticeship or traineeship.

1. Get Set Up For the Future

Not only will you learn the practical skills that go with your selected trade, you’ll also earn a nationally accredited qualification when you undertake an apprenticeship or traineeship. Where that training and on-the-job experience takes you is up to you… Will it be starting your own business, or working interstate or overseas? Being a tradie can offer a long-lasting, rewarding career.

2. It’s Never Too Late to Start

Apprentices aren’t always straight out of school – they come from all walks of life and with different experiences. Unless an apprenticeship is labelled a school-based opportunity, all vacancies at MIGAS are open to mature aged applicants, too.

In Australia, anyone aged 21 years or older at the commencement of their apprenticeship is considered a mature aged or adult apprentice. The same is applied to traineeships and mature aged trainees.

3. Earn While You Learn

Apprenticeships are usually four years in length, and traineeships are one to two years depending on the trade and qualification. During this time you’ll receive a weekly wage specific to your industry, rather than accumulating a HECS-HELP debt like your uni mates.

You may not be earning the big bucks as an apprentice or trainee while you get qualified, but think about the possibilities when you are… and focus on the future as well as today.

Undertaking an apprenticeship or traineeship could be the career boost you’re looking for. If you’re not sure what kind of position you’re interested we have information on our trade areas of specialisation, and you can find current opportunities on our Jobs Board.

These job vacancies change all the time, so if you don’t find the perfect role right now don’t be put off. If you sign up with MIGAS let us know the trade areas you’re keen to pursue, we’ll email you when we have a match.
