In short, yes. MIGAS coordinates the recruitment, selection, interview and induction process, and there are no upfront costs.

Your apprentice or trainee is charged to you at an agreed hourly rate for the hours they work and in line with the relevant modern Award.

  • Do I get to choose my apprentice or trainee?

Yes. Hiring an apprentice or trainee is just like advertising a role directly to the job market – except that MIGAS expertly facilitates the whole process.

We take a thorough brief, prepare a short-list of candidates, arrange interviews, and help you handpick the best fit for your business.

  • What regions/areas does MIGAS cover?

MIGAS is a GTO with regional and metro offices based in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia and South Australia.

Our network of offices and MIGAS team members allows us to support the recruitment, placement and ongoing mentoring of apprentices and trainees anywhere in Australia.

  • How does Group Training work?

As an accredited Group Training Organisation (GTO), MIGAS contractually employs apprentices and trainees, and facilitates all aspects of their training with their host employer and the Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Group training is especially suited to businesses that do not have the time or resources to undertake all the functions involved in an apprenticeship or traineeship, or who require flexibility around the placement and rotation of their workforce. Apprentices and trainees can be rotated between host employers, offering training in a range of skills.

The GTO organises off-the-job training with TAFE or a preferred RTO. We also look after wages, workers compensation and other employee benefits, as well as providing mentoring and support.

MIGAS is a one-stop-shop for advice and assistance for young Australians seeking the right apprenticeship or traineeship specialisation. It’s our role to understand what type of training and employment each person is seeking, and match them with the right host employer.

  • What's are the main benefits of using a GTO?

Taking on an apprentice or trainee with MIGAS means less risk to your business.

MIGAS is the legal employer or the apprentice or trainee and coordinates payroll, administration and HR support. We also provide ongoing mentoring for the duration of the apprenticeship or traineeship to ensure your hosted employee is happy, helpful and performing well.

  • Do apprentice and trainees have to attend offsite training?

Yes, but the good news is it’s planned well in advance and for some traineeships may be flexibly delivered.

MIGAS takes the load by scheduling and booking the training component of the apprenticeship or traineeship, meaning you’ll be able to plan ahead with confidence.

  • How do you ensure a safe workplace for apprentices and trainees?

Safety is at the heart of our business and shapes the decisions we make. MIGAS is nationally accredited to safety standard AS/NZS 4801:2001. It is our job to ensure our apprentice and trainee workforce:

    • Enjoys a safe and healthy workplace
    • Works with safe and considered systems under qualified supervision
    • Only uses plant, equipment and substances which are provided in a continually safe and operable condition
    • Has access to up to date and relevant safety information
    • Participates in a thorough induction and orientation
    • Receives ongoing support to Stop, Think, Act and Review safety in their workplace

MIGAS conducts thorough risk assessments on all worksites prior to placing apprentices and trainees on-site. We work closely with our host employers to explore practical solutions, and implement safety measures to ensure our employees are entering a safe work environment.

Our aim is to ensure all employees go home to their loved ones at the end of their workday.

  • What is the difference between an apprentice and traineeship?

Apprenticeships are traditionally centered around a technical trade that may require more training and more time on the job. Think electrical, plumbing, metal fabrication or mechanical. Apprenticeships range from 3-5 years in length.

Traineeships are typically shorter and range from 12-24 months. Traineeships are often associated with transactional and administrative job roles. In truth, there are dozens of different types of traineeships ranging from telecommunications, warehousing and engineering through to customer service and general business support.

  • What are the benefits of hiring a trainee?

There are several benefits to hiring a MIGAS trainee, including:

    • A shorter-term commitment than an apprentice
    • Flexible training options – college-based training can often be delivered in the workplace
    • Cost-effective way of succession planning and adding skills to your business
    • Perfect for businesses without the range and scope of work to support an apprentice
    • MIGAS does all the leg work by providing an end-to-end solution for the recruitment, placement and ongoing management of your trainees right through to completion
    • Flexible options available for full time, part-time or school-based
    • A wide range of available qualifications available that support workplaces requiring very specific and targeted skills
