MIGAS Apprentices and Trainees, together with Anglo American, is searching for the next generation of motivated and enthusiastic people to join their team and commence a long-term career in the mining industry.

 

The annual apprenticeship intake for 2019 features six opportunities within the electrical and mechanical trades on offer at the Capcoal Underground Operation.

This is one of Anglo American’s underground longwall mine situated in the centre of the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland, 25 kilometres south west of Middlemount and approximately three hours’ drive south west of Mackay.

MIGAS are looking for motivated and enthusiastic people, who are reliable and enjoy taking a hands-on approach to new experiences.

As you progress through your trade we'll help you discover your real capability and develop your safety, technical and leadership skills.   • WHAT DO I NEED TO APPLY?

    You will need a cover letter and a resume highlighting your interests in the chosen trade and the relevant skills you bring to your apprenticeship.

    A cover letter is your opportunity to tell us:

    • a little bit about you,
    • why you want the apprenticeship, and
    • what makes you right for this role.

    Tell us about what interests you and what motivates you to succeed. Share your story and why it will make you a great apprentice.

    Think of your resume as a catalogue of your skills and experience. We’d like to see:

    • your school and subjects listed along with your grades;
    • include pre-vocational certificates you have completed; and
    • any full-time or part-time work or work experience.

    Make sure you include any work experience or volunteer work where you may have had the opportunity to be part of a team or exposed to the trade or industry. And don’t forget to list any clubs or groups you are actively involved in. 

  • CAN I APPLY FOR BOTH ROLES?

    Yes, you certainly can.

    To be considered for both roles you must apply for each position separately.

    An Electrical trade and Mechanical Fitter trade are two very different trade specialisations that require different strengths and interests.

    We suggest you develop a tailored cover letter for each role highlighting your strengths in the different apprenticeships on offer.

  • WHEN DO APPLICATIONS CLOSE?

    Applications will close on Sunday 7 October at Midnight.

  • HOW LONG IS THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS AND WHAT’S INVOLVED?

    The recruitment process will take a number of weeks.

    Applications will first be reviewed for suitability against the job advertisement criteria.

    Suitable applicants will receive a phone call from a MIGAS Recruitment Officer to discuss their application in more detail.

    Shortlisted candidates will be notified of their progression and the requirements for Stage One Interviews with MIGAS.

    Candidates who interview successfully will progress to Stage Two group assessments and interview with MIGAS and Anglo American. This will be held in Middlemount, QLD the week commencing 22 October 2018.

    Employment offers will be made in early November to successful candidates, subject to medicals, and drug and alcohol screening

    Final candidates who pass all subject screening will be required to participate in Standard 11 Training (surface and underground) as part of their induction.

    Timing may change during the course of the recruitment process.

  • HOW WILL I BE NOTIFIED IF I’M SHORTLISTED OR UNSUCCESSFUL?

    At each stage, every effort will be made to contact candidates directly either via email or phone.

    Shortlisted candidates can expect a phone call and an email confirming their progression and will include details about the next process.

    Due to the number of applications, we receive unsuccessful candidates can expect an email in accordance with their progression stage.

  • WHAT HAPPENS NEXT IF I’M SUCCESSFUL?

    If you are successful, you will be provided a copy of your employment contract and all other documents regarding your employment with MIGAS Apprentices and Trainees.

    From here you will have direct communication with your appointed MIGAS Field Officer regarding your MIGAS and Anglo American – Capcoal Underground inductions and any additional tickets required before working at the mine.

  • WHEN DO THE APPRENTICESHIPS COMMENCE?

    Apprenticeships will commence in January 2019. Successful candidates will be advised in their employment contract of their exact start date.
