MIGAS Apprentices & Trainees has once again partnered with Bengalla Mining Company for its highly successful annual apprenticeship intake.

The Opportunity 

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor at Bengalla Mining Company, you will be mentored by qualified tradespeople over a four-year period to gain electrical knowledge and skills within the mining industry.

Your main responsibilities will include electrical repairs, maintenance, diagnostics, and component change outs in field and workshop environments. Other duties will include installing wiring, circuits, high voltage switching, insulated cables, connecting switches, outlets and maintaining electrical systems, equipment, and process control.

Your involvement within the maintenance team will include efficient and continuous operation of all assets on a 24 hour, 7-day open cut mine site.

At the completion of the apprenticeship, you will become a qualified Electrician and earn a nationally accredited qualification, UEE30820 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician.

About You

We are seeking candidates who are motivated, have good problem-solving skills and want the chance to have a long-term career in the mining industry.

Applicants with a Certificate II level pre-vocational qualification in the electrical field or who have related work experience (paid or volunteer) will be highly regarded. Other requirements will include:

  • Applicants must reside in the Muswellbrook, Scone and Denman LGAs
  • Current driver's licence or learner's permit
  • Access to your own reliable transport to and from site
  • Possess strong mathematical aptitude with a minimum of Year 10 completion
  • Comfortable working at heights and in a physically demanding environment
  • Be able to work independently as well as contribute to a team
  • Take pride in the quality of your work
  • Be reliable for full-time working hours
  • Demonstrate a genuine passion for your chosen trade
  • Be committed to completing and passing all practical and theory-based study requirements of your Australian Apprenticeship
  • Have the ability to pass a medical, drug and alcohol screen, and Police Check

About Bengalla Mining Company

Bengalla Mining Company has long been a part of the upper Hunter Valley and is committed to investing in the region through creating jobs and supporting the local community. It is a single pit, open-cut mine using a dragline, truck and excavator method to keep the site operating 24 hours, seven days.

As a busy and highly productive site, a range of practical skills are required to keep the mine operating safely and smoothly.

All Bengalla Mining Company Apprentices undertake a six-month Mining Skills Program at the Centre, in conjunction with Hunter TAFE, to develop valuable technical skills including welding, electrical, automotive, and training in financial awareness, health and nutrition, personal fitness, communication skills, and road safety awareness.
