Fitter Machinist Apprenticeship

The Opportunity

We are seeking a full-time Fitter Machinist Apprentice to join the team at BOC Gas and Gear in Rocklea.

BOC is a leading global gases and engineering company supplying gases and equipment across various sectors, including heavy industry and medical environments.

This opportunity allows you to become fully qualified in the specialist trade of Fitter Machinist while working towards the completion of a MEM31922 Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade.

Job Details

The position involves a strong focus on site work, with travel required across Brisbane, surrounding areas, and occasionally interstate. You'll be responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining plant equipment such as pumps and valves in various field environments. While some workshop maintenance is included, the role primarily offers hands-on experience alongside skilled tradespeople in dynamic on-site settings. Willingness to work overtime and travel (QLD and interstate), including availability on weekends, is essential.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Installing gas pipelines

  • Servicing and refurbishing vessels

  • Providing equipment support

  • Conducting audits and inspections

  • Installing food preparation and freezer equipment

  • Servicing gas equipment (BOC and customer-owned)

Hours

  • Monday to Friday: 7:00 am – 4:00 pm

  • Overtime: May be required outside standard hours depending on job requirements. You must also be available to work on weekends as needed.

Additionally, we are looking for someone who meets the following requirements:

  • A valid driver’s licence
  • A Construction White Card
  • Ability to follow instructions and work safely
  • Willingness to work overtime and travel (QLD and interstate)
  • Ability to obtain a Blue Card (Working with Children)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to pass a Pre-Employment Medical, Drug & Alcohol Screen, and Police Check
