Corporate Basketball Challenge a Slam Dunk

SportingWheelies

On 4 December 2015, MIGAS participated in the Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association’s inaugural Wheelchair Basketball Corporate Challenge in Brisbane.

MIGAS volunteered 6 of our Brisbane staff, CFO Mark Corgat, Recruitment Specialists Chris McGeown and Lollie Smith, Commercial Manager Kerry Gosney, Field Officer Leroy Lepou and Business Development Manager Charlie Fetoai, to participate in the wheelchair challenge. There were more than 60 players taking part in 12 teams, with the aim of raising funds for life-changing programs and services for people with a disability.

Despite having never played before, the MIGAS volunteers took to the wheelchairs with enthusiasm. All six volunteers agreed the hardest part is trying to shoot the ball without the help of your legs. The teams were able to bid for the services of some of Queensland’s top wheelchair basketballers, an opportunity MIGAS jumped, gaining the advice of a young man named Dan. Dan gave the teams lots of great tips, and definitely helped out in winning a few games for us.

A couple of tired arms and few dramatic tumbles later, MIGAS missed out on the finals, but had met some truly inspirational people. MIGAS are exceptionally proud to provide such support to a worthy local cause, and of course, have a lot of fun in the process.
