Top 5 Reasons to do an Apprenticeship or Traineeship

Top 5 Reasons to do an Apprenticeship or Traineeship

Congratulations! You've just finished year 12, and you're looking forward to the summer ahead.

Once the new year starts though, you're going to be faced with an important life decision. What's next? Should you go to university, take your chances in the current job market, or start an apprenticeship or traineeship?

Here at MIGAS, it should come as no surprise that our vote would be an apprenticeship or traineeship! We've provided our top reasons for why an apprenticeship or traineeship is arguably a better move than going to university or straight into the job market.

Here are our top 5 reasons to start an apprenticeship or traineeship.

Financially it's a Better Idea

For the same amount of time you would spend studying at the university accumulating debt, you could be working, learning and earning money.

During your apprenticeship or traineeship, you will receive a weekly wage specific to your industry, so while you are getting ready for your future career you are making money and not going into debt.

You'll be Improving Your CV

While you’re building your resume one of the best ways to attract employers is undertaking an apprenticeship or traineeship.

You gain hands-on industry experience and learn practical skills that can be transferrable. These are very attractive to any employer.

You'll Have a Better Chance at Securing a Full-time Position

By completing your apprenticeship or traineeship with MIGAS, you will be placed with one or more host employers to complete your on-the-job training. If you impress your supervisors during your employment and there is a high likelihood you could move into a full-time position with your host company.

Having a position like that ready for you once you have completed means you’ll hit the ground running, unlike many university graduates.

You'll Receive Excellent Support and Guidance

As a MIGAS apprentice or trainee, we make sure that you receive excellent support and guidance during your training from both your host supervisor and your MIGAS-appointed field officer.

We make sure that you stay focused so you complete your apprenticeship or traineeship and that you acquire all the skills and experience you need to excel in your selected trade.

You Can Build the Career You Want

The skills and formal qualifications that you will acquire through an apprenticeship or traineeship with MIGAS will set you up for the future. You could go into a career with a company that will set you up for the rest of your working life, or maybe give you everything you need to start your own business.

It may even allow you to travel overseas and bring your expertise to a role you never imagined yourself doing!
