Turn Up Western Sydney

ignite your trade career with an apprenticeship

An apprenticeship has been proven to give you more employment opportunities than if you’ve gone to uni. For some trades, your income is usually better than your uni mates once you complete, and the likelihood of being self-employed or owning your own business is also greater. Plus most have no-experience-required and you won't have that student loan or HECS debt others complain about because you'll get paid to learn!

Convinced yet? …do we even need to ask?

Most tradies have the potential to earn six figure plus salaries once qualified, allowing you to travel overseas, buy your own car and save towards a home sooner than anyone else your age.

There's a variety of trade apprenticeships to choose from that are in demand, interesting and needed now across Western Sydney. If you've got what it takes to turn up, apply today.

  • Why TURN UP with MIGAS? Why not get an apprenticeship direct with an employer?

At MIGAS Apprentices and Trainees our one goal is to support you to complete your qualification and become a highly skilled tradie. Whilst we recognise the value in undertaking an apprenticeship direct, there’s always the risk that your employer won’t be able to put you first as they're running a business with loads of priorities. With MIGAS, your success is our priority. We know that you are more likely to stick with your apprenticeship and complete when you have our support.

With MIGAS you'll have a dedicated Field Officer to be your go-to person for all things apprenticeship life, study and career related. They are kind of like your apprentice coach and are always right there when you need them.

MIGAS offers annual scholarships to award our best performing and toughest apprentices for their commitment to chasing a trade career. The winners receive money in their bank towards making their life easier and more fulfilling to spend on whatever they like.

With MIGAS you have access to a network of host employers, so there’s no chance of you missing out on acquiring the right skills to complete your trade. These are just some of the added bonuses on doing your apprenticeship with MIGAS.

  • Who can apply?

Australian Apprenticeships and Traineeships are available to anyone with unlimited rights to work and study full-time in Australia. Simply put, if you're an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident you are good to go.

MIGAS employs both junior and mature aged apprentices. We champion for women in trades and are passionate about empowering Indigenous Australians into a trade career.

  • How do I apply?

Hit that apply now button on the apprenticeship job you're chasing. You will be asked to activate a MIGAS Account and complete our online application form.

Your MIGAS Account allows you to keep track of the jobs you have applied for and update your details with us at any time.

You will need a cover letter and resume outlining your interest in the apprenticeship and any relevant school or work experience you have completed to date.

  • Can I apply for all roles?

Yes, you sure can! And if you are passionate about a particular trade we encourage it.

Just make sure that you have a unique cover letter for each role detailing your unique interest.

  • What do I need to apply?

    Here’s your application check list:

    • Cover Letter – customised for the apprenticeship job
    • Resume – detailing any relevant school or work experience
    • Two references – details for two people we can contact to vouch for you. These can be managers, teachers, or even coaches.
    • Email address – make sure you check this regularly
    • Contact phone number – we want to be able to reach you to discuss your application

It’s also our experience that lots of jobs require you to have your Provisional driver licence and at least a year 10 education, even better if you have graduated year 12.

  • What do I put in my cover letter and resume?

Your cover letter and resume should highlight your interests in the chosen trade and the relevant skills you bring to your apprenticeship.

A cover letter is your opportunity to tell us:

    • a little bit about you,
    • why you want the apprenticeship, and
    • what makes you right for this role.

Tell us about what interests you, what you do in the local community and why it will make you a great apprentice.

Think of your resume as a catalogue of your skills and experience. We’d like to see your school and subjects listed along with your grades and any pre-vocational certificates you have completed, plus any full-time or part-time work.

Make sure you include any work experience or volunteer work where you may have had the opportunity to be part of a team. And don’t forget to list any clubs or groups you are actively involved in.

  • How smart do I have to be?

Every trade is different and being trade-smart for one can be very different for another.

For example, in the electrical trades, it’s important to be great with Math; so if you enjoy problem solving and are great with numbers this is the trade for you. Make sure you highlight your performance in Math at school to get this across in your resume.

On the other hand, being trade-smart in engineering trades is often defined as having mechanical aptitude. If you are fascinated by how machines work and enjoy pulling them apart and putting them back together you have mechanical aptitude. It might be as simple as enjoying getting the family lawn mower started or working on the family car.

  • How do I know if the apprenticeship is right for me?

Every apprenticeship is different and offers a range of opportunities. The best way to know is to have a go but we think it helps if you know a bit about what you are getting yourself into and what motivates you.

Start by taking a look at our Apprenticeships hub and seeing if anything grabs your attention:
