Most work is completed in customers’ homes across, so the role suits someone who communicates well, builds rapport and takes pride in leaving each site safe, tidy and professionally finished.

A positive attitude, willingness to learn, practical problem-solving skills and a team-focused approach are essential.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Day-to-day work will include measuring, marking out, cutting and joining timber and sheet materials using hand and power tools.

You will complete varied residential repair, installation and improvement work while learning safe work methods, planning tasks and maintaining tools, materials and work areas.

  • Ability to work safely, be conscious and mindful of your surroundings and follow and adhere to instructions in a safe manner
  • Repair and replace doors, door frames, locks, hinges, windows, architraves and skirting boards
  • Repair and build decks, steps, handrails, balustrades, pergolas and fences
  • Install and repair wall and ceiling linings, plasterboard patches and cornices
  • Repair floors, sub-floor framing and stairs, including replacing rotted or damaged timber
  • Assemble and install cabinetry, shelving, flat-pack furniture and fixtures
  • Assist with small framing, renovation and fit-off work
  • Fill, sand and prepare surfaces for painting or finishing

Tools and Equipment

You will use common carpentry hand tools, cordless and powered cutting and finishing tools, access equipment and site safety equipment.

A work van and a phone or tablet with ServiceM8 will be used for travel, job notes and timesheets.

Equipment includes tape measures, squares, levels, hammers, hand saws, chisels, planes, screwdrivers, pry bars, drills, impact drivers, circular and drop saws, jigsaws, multi-tools, sanders, routers, planers, nail guns, ladders, trestles, sawhorses, clamps, laser levels and dust extraction equipment.

  • Consumables include nails, screws, wall plugs, adhesives, fillers, sandpaper and spare blades
  • Tools and equipment must be checked, used and stored safely
  • Work areas must be kept clean and controlled to protect customers, children, pets and other people onsite

About You

You will need a current driver licence and reliable vehicle with the ability to travel locally between worksites. You must have or be able to attain a White Card. Experience in customer service or dealing with the public is highly regarded because most jobs are completed in residential homes.

The successful candidate will have a positive attitude, sound problem-solving skills, an eagerness to learn and the ability to work well as part of a team. Clear communication, reliability and the ability to build rapport with customers are important.
