The Opportunity

We are currently seeking candidates who have a genuine passion for Boilermaking and Welding work and are looking for an opportunity to start an apprenticeship. 

Our client Wood Australia, based in Lytton, is an international engineering company with a focus in the oil and gas sector.

Undertaking this four-year apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to become a qualified Boilermaker and you will earn your MEM31922 Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (Boilermaking / Welding).

Job Details

You will be involved in hands-on activities to develop your skills relating to operating welding equipment. It starts with developing your skills and knowledge in the workshop before progressing on to assisting tradespeople in the processing plant.

Your key duties will include: 

  • Using hand and power tools, measuring and marking tools, angle grinders, oxy - acetylene torches, drilling machines, lever hoists, slings and shackles
  • Fabricating steel structures, vessels, tanks, and pipework from drawings
  • Fabricating, installing, maintaining and repairing heavy steel equipment that handles high pressure, heat and hazardous materials
  • Measure, cut, shape and assemble metal components using tools and machinery
  • Performing welding using processes like MIG, TIG, and stick welding
  • Maintenance and repairs of tanks, boilers, heat exchangers and pressure vessels
  • Installation of new equipment during plant upgrades or expansions
  • Following strict refinery safety procedures

About You

  • Is safety conscious 
  • Have a genuine interest in fabrication/welding trades is essential 
  • Fabrication aptitude and basic numeracy skills
  • Have basic welding, grinding, and familiarity with hand tools is desirable
  • Willingness to learn and develop skills
  • Have good communication skills
  • Is reliable and presentable
  • Work well with others
  • Driver’s licence with P plate as minium
  • White Card
  • Ability to pass a Pre-Employment Medical, Drug and Alcohol screen and Police Check
