The Opportunity

We are seeking an Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Apprentice to join the team at Johnson Controls. This position is located in Windsor working in the Mechanical HVAC team. 

You will be hosted with Johnson Controls, a company that has the world’s largest portfolio of building products, technologies, software, and services with nearly 2,000 locations worldwide.

Undertaking this four-year air conditioning and refrigeration apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to become qualified in this specialist trade while completing your UEE32220 Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration

Job Details

Johnson Controls is seeking two HVAC apprentices, ideally in their 2nd or 3rd year of an Air Conditioning & Refrigeration apprenticeship. While the qualification includes refrigeration, this role will primarily focus on Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) work across commercial sites.

You'll gain hands-on experience in mechanical HVAC systems, with occasional exposure to refrigeration tasks. A great opportunity to learn from industry experts and grow your career in a global company. 

Working under the direction of qualified tradespeople, duties will include:

  • Assisting with installing, repairing, servicing, and maintaining HVAC equipment in commercial facilities
  • Assist technicians in responding to HVAC breakdown service calls across various commercial sites.

  • Support the completion of monthly planned preventive maintenance activities.

  • Aid in planned repair works and installations of a variety of air conditioning systems, including system commissioning.

  • Assist with the installation, repair, servicing, and maintenance of HVAC equipment in commercial facilities.

  • Learn and support the accurate completion of job documentation to facilitate timely and accurate invoicing.

  • Work safely in accordance with Johnson Controls International (JCI) safety policies and procedures.

  • Perform duties that involve working at heights and utilising general hand tools as well as industry-specific equipment.

About You

  • Willingness to learn, listen, and follow instructions

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Keen to learn and develop skills within the HVAC industry

  • Computer literate, with the ability to complete digital documentation and reports

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with a solid understanding of hand and power tools

  • Some prior experience in basic labouring and the use of tools/equipment is preferred

  • Valid driver's licence

  • Current Construction White Card (or ability to obtain)

  • Willingness and ability to undertake a pre-employment medical assessment

  • Ability to pass a medical examination, including drug and alcohol screening, and a National Police Check
