The Opportunity

In partnership with Origin Energy, MIGAS is seeking motivated and safety-focused individuals looking to build a rewarding career in the telecommunications and energy industry.

As a Telecommunications Trainee, you will work towards completing a ICT30524 Certificate III in Telecommunications Technology over a two-year traineeship while gaining valuable hands-on experience supporting telecommunications infrastructure and operational technology across Origin's field operations.

Working alongside experienced industry professionals, you'll develop practical skills in the installation, maintenance, fault-finding and monitoring of communication systems that are critical to Origin's operations.

You'll learn how modern telecommunications networks support safe and efficient energy production while building a strong foundation for future career opportunities.

Origin Energy is a leading Australian integrated energy company with interests in energy retailing, power generation and natural gas production.

Origin is the upstream operator of Australia Pacific LNG, which supplies natural gas to domestic markets and exports LNG under long-term contracts.

Job Details

As a Telecommunications Trainee, your duties may include:

  • Assisting with installing and maintaining telecommunications equipment and infrastructure
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting communication systems and networks
  • Supporting field technicians with inspections, testing and fault diagnosis
  • Working with radio, fibre optic, data and communication technologies
  • Completing routine maintenance activities and documentation
  • Following strict health, safety and environmental procedures
  • Working collaboratively across operational teams to support business-critical communications

About You

We're looking for enthusiastic individuals who are committed to learning new skills and building a career in a technical field.

To be successful, you will demonstrate:

  • Completion of Year 10, Year 12 or equivalent education
  • A genuine interest in technology, telecommunications or communications systems
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • A commitment to workplace safety and environmental responsibility
  • The ability to work both independently and within a team
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • A willingness to learn and complete all training and assessments
  • The ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions when required
  • Reliable transport and a current driver's licence (manual licence preferred)
  • The ability to pass a Pre-Employment Medical, Drug & Alcohol Screen and Police Check
