Water Operations Traineeship

The Opportunity

In partnership with Shell's QGC business, MIGAS is seeking motivated individuals to start a Water Operations Traineeship supporting Coal Seam Gas operations in the Western Downs.

This is a unique opportunity to begin a career in industrial water treatment, working with water extracted during gas production.

You'll learn how this water is treated, managed, and reused safely and sustainably, playing a key role in both energy production and environmental protection.

You will complete a NWP30222 Certificate III in Water Industry Operations (Treatment) while gaining hands-on experience on large-scale water treatment plants operated by Veolia, a global leader in environmental services.

Job Details

Throughout this two-year traineeship, you will work alongside experienced tradespeople who will guide and mentor you throughout your training.

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Assisting with operation and monitoring of produced water treatment systems
  • Monitoring water quality parameters
  • Assisting with chemical storage, handling, and dosing systems
  • Supporting environmental monitoring and reporting activities
  • Contributing to planned and unplanned maintenance tasks
  • Troubleshooting and responding to plant upsets with guidance
  • Maintaining laboratory and field equipment
  • Assisting with hazardous materials management
  • Using control systems to monitor plant performance

About You

We're seeking a motivated, hardworking individual who is a team player and committed to building a long-term career in the industry.

Applicants with an interest in chemistry, those who enjoyed chemistry at school, or candidates with relevant work experience will be highly regarded.

To be successful in this position, we’re looking for candidates with the following attributes:

  • Ability to commit to a 14 day on living in camp and 13 day off lifestyle roster
  • A genuine interest in science, chemistry, or technical processes
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • A willingness to learn and work as part of a team
  • Good communication and basic computer skills
  • Commitment to working safely and following Shell QGC safety systems and procedures
  • Interest in working in a regional and hands-on environment
  • Ability to pass a Pre-Employment Medical, Drug and Alcohol Screen, and Police Check
  • Ability to obtain Construction White Card
  • Valid driver’s licence and reliable transport

Please note as part of the onboarding process, applicants may be asked to provide evidence of residence within the Western Downs region.
