New Podcast Series Spotlights Women in Trades

MIGAS Apprentices & Trainees has launched an exciting new podcast series, WITS About Us, aimed at inspiring and empowering women in the trades industry.

This 6-part series features interviews with industry experts, female apprentices, and trade career coaches, offering listeners valuable advice on how to get set up for a trade career.

The debut episode of the WITS About Us Podcast sets the stage for an inspiring journey with its guest, Hacia Atherton, the founding director of Empowered Women in Trades (EWIT). Hosting the episode is Stacey Wallace, the General Manager of MiTraining.

Hacia Atherton's remarkable work in the trades industry is helping more young people feel comfortable getting on the tools. Her drive to assist others in achieving success emerged after she experienced a life-threatening equestrian accident.

Listeners can expect the podcast series to provide fresh perspectives, real-life experiences, and captivating stories on starting a career in an Australian trade – whether you’re interested in electrical, mechanical or an engineering trade like fitting and turning.

The podcast covers how to overcome barriers to entering trades, how to find a mentor, understand pathways into apprenticeships, why you need resilience and how to utilise positive psychology to stay motivated, and how to check if a workplace is going to be set up for you to succeed as a woman in trades.

Each episode offers valuable insights and practical guidance for young people considering an Australian Apprenticeship.

MIGAS CEO David Hoey emphasises the importance of a diverse workforce.

"Embracing diversity in traditional trade roles is not just a matter of equality; it's a recipe for success and innovation. Young women bring a wealth of different experiences, problem-solving skills, and a unique perspective to the table," he said.

"We can foster creativity and drive positive change by including more women in these roles. Ultimately, it benefits everyone involved, creating a more inclusive, dynamic, and prosperous trade environment."

The WITS About Us Podcast aligns with this vision by promoting inclusivity and equality in the trade industry.

The debut episode featuring Hacia Atherton is already available for streaming on major platforms such as Apple, Spotify, Google, and YouTube. Listeners can gain invaluable knowledge from Hacia Atherton's interview, and they can look forward to the upcoming five episodes, which will feature inspiring discussions with leading industry experts.

Among the forthcoming guests are Louise Azzopardi, a tradeswoman and now a life coach for tradeswomen, and Leonie Stanfield, a counsellor, career coach, and researchers from the School of Property, Construction and Project Management at RMIT University, among many others.
