The usual length of an air conditioning and refrigeration apprenticeship is 3-4 years, during which you’ll be paid to work and study. 

In addition to gaining practical experience in a real world setting, you’ll complete a nationally accredited qualification UEE32220 Certificate III in Air-conditioning and Refrigeration with a Registered Training Organisation such as TAFE.

The role of an Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician includes several key responsibilities, including:

Indicative wages for an air conditioning and refrigeration apprentice as at 1 July 2024:

  • Under 17 years of age: $576.14 to $930.59 per week

  • 17 to 20 years of age: $631.53 to $930.59 per week

  • Over 21 years of age: $908.44 to $991.77 per week

Air conditioning qualifications are included on the Government's Australian Apprenticeships Priority List, which provides additional support payments to eligible apprentices.
