Fixed and Mobile Plant Mechanical and Electrical apprenticeship opportunities are available at the Poitrel and South Walter Creek mine sites in Central Queensland.

Opportunities commence in early February 2027 and are available for full-time apprentices, providing pathways for local people at different stages of their trade career.

Fixed and Mobile Plant Mechanical Apprenticeships

4-year duration
Earn a Certificate III in Engineering - Fixed and Mobile Plant Mechanic (MEM31419)
Located at either the South Walker Creek Mine, 35 kilometres west of Nebo (Strathfield), or Poitrel Mine, 35 kilometres east of Moranbah (Coppabella)
Responsibilities include maintenance and repair work on fixed plant equipment, including refinery and processing plants, and mobile plant equipment, including haul trucks, excavators, and drilling rigs

Electrical Apprenticeship

4-year duration
Earn a Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician (UEE30820)
Located at the South Walker Creek Mine, 35 kilometres west of Nebo (Strathfield)
Responsibilities include installation, maintenance, repair, and testing of electrical systems

Where are the apprenticeships based?

All positions are based at either the Poitrel Mine Site, 35 kilometres east of Moranbah, or South Walker Creek Mine Site, 35 kilometres west of Nebo in Queensland.

How do I know which trade is right for me?

Electrical and engineering trades involve different types of work and skills.

Electrical apprentices develop skills in installing, maintaining, testing and fault-finding electrical equipment and systems.

Mobile and Fixed Plant Mechanical Engineering apprentices develop skills associated with machinery and mechanical equipment, including maintenance, fitting, repair and fault diagnosis.

What does the recruitment process involve?

Places within the Stanmore Apprentice Intake are competitive, and shortlisted candidates will progress through a structured recruitment and selection process.

The process includes:

Do I need a car or driver's licence?

Yes. It is a requirement of all the positions that you have reliable transport to and from work.
I live outside the Moranbah or Mackay region – can I apply?

We strongly recommend that only applicants living in the Moranbah, Mackay or the surrounding region apply for these roles. If you live outside of these regions, your application may not be considered.
