Job Details

Undertaking this four-year apprenticeship at the Stanmore Poitrel Coal Mine will provide you with the opportunity to become trade qualified while earning your MEM31419 Certificate III in Engineering - Fixed and Mobile Plant Mechanic.

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will develop the skills and knowledge required to inspect, maintain, diagnose and repair a range of heavy mobile mining equipment and machinery.

During your first year, you will work a 9-day fortnight on 12-hour shifts, gaining valuable hands-on experience in a real mining environment.

Depending on your home location in the Bowen Basin, travel would be required to the camp accommodation site (Coppabella). Please note this position is drive-in/drive-out (DIDO).

About You

To be successful, you will have:

  • A genuine passion for mechanical work and a desire to build a career in the trade
  • A willingness to listen, learn and actively seek new learning opportunities
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Good language, literacy and numeracy skills
  • A strong commitment to safety
  • Successful completion of Year 12, with satisfactory results in Mathematics
  • A strong interest in automotive, mechanical or engineering work
  • Completion of, or near completion of, an automotive or engineering pre-apprenticeship (desirable)
  • The ability to pass a Pre-Employment Medical, including a Coal Mine Workers' Health Scheme, Standard 11 Safety Induction, Drug and Alcohol Screening, and Police Check
  • Residence in, or willingness to relocate to, Moranbah or the Bowen Basin region
