The Opportunity

MIGAS is proud to be partnering with Anglo American, one of Australia’s largest suppliers of quality steelmaking coal with a focus on safety and sustainability.

Undertaking this four-year apprenticeship at Aquila Mine, 32km south from Middlemount in central Queensland, will give you the opportunity to become a trade qualified and earn a UEE30820 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician.

Aquila Mine has been developed as one Australia’s most technologically advanced underground mines, leveraging Anglo American’s advancements in underground automation technology, remote operations and data analytics.

Job Details

As a full-time Electrical Apprentice, you will gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced tradespeople while beginning the journey to develop the practical skills and knowledge required to become a qualified electrician.

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will learn how to:

  • Install, service, maintain, repair, isolate, test, and commission a range of electrical systems and fixed infrastructure used in the coal mining industry
  • Work with advanced technologies, including high-voltage electrical equipment, communications systems, and backup power infrastructure
  • Apply industry-leading safety practices and develop valuable trade skills in a real-world mining environment

You’ll gain hands‑on experience across Aquila Mine underground operations, supported by a tailored training plan, experienced trade professionals, and offsite TAFE training.  

You will commence on a 4/3 roster Monday to Thursday, starting at 5:30am and finishing at 5:30pm.

The apprenticeship will commence at the beginning of 2027.

About You

  • You will bring a passion for the trade and be willing to listen, learn and actively seek out new learning opportunities
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • You will possess a good level of language, literacy and numeracy skills
  • A strong focus on safety
  • Completed Year 12 before the apprenticeship commences
  • Have a strong interest in electrical work
  • Hold or near completion of obtaining a Certificate II in Electrotechnology would be advantageous
  • Have the ability to obtain a Health Assessment under the Coal Mine Workers' Health Scheme, Standard 11 mining induction program, Drug and Alcohol test, and Police Check
